The Business

Bruner Business Communication specializes in business writing skills training. It was started by me, Jody Bruner, in 1996. Before that I was teaching academic writing at York University, where I helped my students clarify their thinking, and understand and meet their readers’ needs.

Today, I’m part of a small, talented (and modest) team. We’re located in Toronto, Canada, and we deliver courses across the country. Here’s a brief list of what we provide:

  • a full range of business writing courses delivered at your premises
  • public courses in Toronto and Ottawa, Ontario
  • customized courses
  • licensing and certification for your trainers to deliver our courses
  • self-study courses for individuals or dispersed groups
  • individual coaching for anyone too busy for a course
  • copy writing for important documents

All our courses, products and services have been developed because our clients have asked specifically for them. If you have a writing problem that needs solving, we can probably help. Just give us a call.

The Blog (and the Newsletter)

Since 1998, I’ve been writing newsletters. It’s been a great marketing tool; a way to capture and share knowledge and ideas about business writing that don’t fit in the courses; AND a way to keep the learning alive for our graduates.

We used to mail 1000 hard copies and 6000 soft copies of our newsletter three times a year to our clients, friends and graduates. Our readers said they enjoyed them and got lots of useful ideas, so we archived all the newsletters on our old website. But because they were filed by date, the content was difficult—okay, impossible—to access.

The main reason I started blogging was to unlock all the newsletter content that was still useful but buried in old newsletters. One nice thing about a blog format is that articles can be indexed by category. If you visit the Archives page, and click on the little plus button beside a category, a list of post titles will drop down. You can quickly scan the list of most recent posts and read what interests you. You can also use the search function located in the left column.

And it turns out blogging is fun—it’s inspired me to write more and in a different style. With so much more content, I’m now publishing newsletters once a month and each newsletter is a compilation of the month’s best posts. You can subscribe–it’s free!
